Raider baseball loses third straight

COLLINS — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter baseball was held to just four hits in a five-inning loss to Class 3A No. 8 Saydel on Friday night.

The Raiders, who were still missing several starters because of an annual Mission’s trip, lost to the Eagles, 13-0, during Heart of Iowa Conference play.

Rece Martin improved to 4-0 with an earned run average of .29 on the season after fanning six and walking none in the win.

Brady Ross singled in the first, Tucker Maxwell singled in the second, Brady Stover singled in the third and Aric Broderick collected a hit in the fourth for CMB, which has lost three straight since starting 4-0.

Saydel (11-1 overall, 6-0 in HOIC play) scored six runs in the first inning, two in the second and five more in the third.

Martin had two doubles, two runs and three RBIs at the plate for the Eagles, whose only loss came against 3A No. 1 Pella earlier this season.

CMB’s Maxwell started the game on the mound but was pulled after allowing three hits and five earned runs.

Junior Hunter McWhirter finished the game, allowing seven hits and two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

CMB (4-3, 4-3) hosts Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
