Guest conductors to lead Newton Municipal Band on Thursday

The Newton Municipal Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bowl at Maytag Park for the second of its summer concerts in the park.

The concert will open with the playing of “Fanfare and the Star Spangled Banner,” directed by guest conductor and composer, Warren Erickson. A well-known local musician, and long-time trombone player in the band, Erickson composed the “Fanfare” portion of the piece specifically for the Newton band.

Following our National Anthem, the band is pleased to welcome Dan Stecker to the podium as guest conductor. Stecker, a former director of the band, is currently director of the Pleasantville High School Band. He has chosen a very fun and lively concert, sure to please. Pieces will include “Allied Honor March,” “Variation Overture,” “Marche Des Parachutistes Belges,” “Music From Jurassic Park,” “The Trombone King,” “Eine Kleine Rockmusik” by Wolfbane Armadillo Mozart, “Spirit of the Heartland Concert March,” and “Highlights From The Music Man.”

The band happy to have Linda Erickson at the microphone as Emcee for this concert. Dominos Pizza will again be selling pizza by the slice, from their truck at the top of the hill.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets, and come spend a delightful evening in a beautiful setting. Enjoy a slice of pizza, wiggle your toes in the cool grass and listen to the musical talents of your friends and neighbors in the Newton Municipal Band.
