C-M surpasses last year’s win total

COLFAX — Another come-from-behind victory helped the Colfax-Mingo baseball surpass last year’s win total just nine games into the season.

Trailing by three in the final inning, the Tigerhawks used strong base running and some luck to pull off the win. Colfax-Mingo plated four runs in the final inning and won 8-7 over Sigourney in South Iowa Cedar League action.

Colfax-Mingo coach Greer Milledge said a dropped fly ball in the outfield contributed to the comeback win. It was the Tigerhawks’ sixth win of the season.

They finished 5-24 last season, and the fifth win didn’t come until July 11.

The Tigerhawks finished with 10 hits in the game.

Senior Gabe Simpson and sophomore Misha Seebeck both had two hits and one RBI, while junior Adam Teed also had a pair of hits.

Seebeck got his first win of the season on the mound as he relieved eighth-grader Trystin Ross in the fifth inning.

Seebeck allowed three hits and one run in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two.

Ross was making his first career varsity start. He allowed five earned runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings while striking out seven.

The Tigerhawks are 6-3 on the season. They have won five of their last six games and are 5-2 inside the SICL.

Colfax-Mingo plays at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Belle Plaine. The Tigerhawks host Tri-County at 6 p.m. Friday. Both games are SICL contests.
