Lynnville-Sully boys lose to Colo-NESCO

ZEARING — Lynnville-Sully’s baseball team ran into a buzz saw named Brady Stoeffler, who pitched for Colo-NESCO, Thursday. The Hawks scored first against their host, but were shut down from there in a 4-2 loss.

“We faced a crafty left-handed pitcher tonight and we hit the ball well, but Colo-NESCO made the defensive plays to limit us to two runs,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Bob Scandridge said. ‘We had a rough start defensively in terms of the first two innings. We regained our focus and played well the rest of the night.”

Elijah Collins drew a walk from Stoeffler in the first inning, and scored on a double Kobe Fisk, Lynnville-Sully’s starting pitcher. The Hawks were held in check from there by the Royals.

Stoeffler allowed three hits, walked four and struck out seven as the winning pitcher for the Royals. Colo-NESCO took the lead with a three-run first inning and scored another run in the second to go up 4-1.

The Hawks loaded the bases in the sixth, but only got one run out of the situation. Josh Dunsbergen scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Van Zante.

Fisk took the loss on the mound and had two of the Hawks’ hits, a double and a single. He pitched two innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks. Fisk struck out one batter.

Collins worked four scoreless innings for the Hawks. He gave up one hit and walked three batters.

Noah Engle singled for the Hawks.

Lynnville-Sully (2-1) is scheduled to host North Mahaska at 6 p.m. Friday in South Iowa Cedar League play in Sully.
