JC Health offers free book with kindergarten immunizations

Madison Jochems, daughter of Scott and Becca Jochems, of Sully, was the first recipient of a free Walt Disney book for getting her kindergarten immunizations at Jasper County Health Department. If you have a child that is going to kindergarten or is older than 4 years old, it is a requirement to get immunizations.

After age 4, children receive booster immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio. Most places, such as Jasper County Health Department, offer vaccines as a combination vaccine such as Proquad, also known as MMRV (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella) and Kinrix which contains Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis and Polio).

“Diseases that used to be common in this country and around the world, including polio, measles, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), rubella (German measles), mumps, tetanus, rotavirus and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) can now be prevented by vaccination. Thanks to a vaccine, one of the most terrible diseases in history – smallpox – no longer exists outside the laboratory. Over the years vaccines have prevented countless cases of disease and saved millions of lives.” Source cdc.gov
