Kenneth R. Meyer

Kenneth R. Meyer, of Newton, passed from this life on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the Montezuma Specialty Care.

Meyer, 74, was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Gibbon, Minn., the son of Arnold W. and Viola E. (Miller) Meyer. He was a high school graduate and later attended a trade school in Minnesota.

On May 27, 1960, Kenneth was united in marriage with Sharron L. Nielsen in Minneapolis, Minn., where they lived until 1971, and moved to Newton. To this union two children were born. For many years, Kenneth was employed as a carpenter and in building maintenance. Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Victoria E. Meyer of Cedar Rapids; a son, Scott D. (Lee) Meyer of Sterling, Va.; his four grandchildren, Kenley, Patrick, Melatha and Emily; brothers, Gerald (Beverly) Meyer, Willmar (Rosemary) Meyer and Dennis Meyer; sisters-in-law, Norma Meyer, Patricia Putz and Martha Saenz; a brother-in-law, John Grush; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sharron Aug. 4, 2008; and a brother, Richard Meyer.

A time of remembrance and the funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation one hour prior to the services.
