The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Grinnell Chapter, had the honor to attend two meetings of the Jasper County Vietnam Era Veterans to hand out certificates.
DAR Regent Kris Macy, Jeanette Shannon, and Secretary Suzanne Van Zandt recognized the veterans with “Grateful Nation to Vietnam Veterans” certificates of valor, service, and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
“The certificates honor the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Southeast Asia. Most of the veterans never received any thanks, let alone a certificate, and were very appreciative,” says Macy.
DAR presented 53 certificates to the Jasper Vietnam group plus one to a Korean veteran, who always joins them and represents Uncle Sam at their special functions. This included three widows who received certificates for their husbands.
