CMB boys finish fifth at Bengal Relays

GILBERT — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys track team placed fifth at the annual Boys Bengals Relays on Monday, and the highlight for the Raiders was scoring double points in three different events.

CMB had a 1-2 finish in the discus, a 2-4 tally in the shot put and a 2-4 finish in the 100. That helped the Raiders score 92.5 points.

Heart of Iowa Conference rivals North Polk and Gilbert finished ahead of CMB in the team standings. North Polk won the team title with 128.5 points, and Gilbert was next with 118. A balanced field saw Iowa Falls-Alden finish third with 112.5 points.

Senior Brady Stover had the most productive night for the Raiders. He won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.81 seconds.

Stover and Jason Hillgren gave the Raiders a 2-4 finish in the 100. Stover was the runner-up in 11.59 seconds, while Hillgren took fourth in 12.15.

The Raiders got a win from Stover in the 400 hurdles and a win from Brady Kemp in the discus. Stover won the 400 hurdles in 57.81 seconds, and Kemp’s best throw in the discus was 131 feet, 7 inches.

Freshman Will Clapper helped the Raiders get a 1-2 finish in the discus.

Kemp’s winning throw was countered with Clapper’s runner-up toss of 129-9. Clapper was fourth in the shot put as he hit the mark at 44-10.

CMB competes at PCM’s invitational at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
