PCM girls win, CMB finishes sixth at B-F

ALTOONA — Backed by three top-10 finishes, the Prairie City-Monroe girls’ golf team grabbed the team title at the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational at Terrace Hills Golf Course on Monday evening.

Junior Breanna Maher won medalist honors with a six-over-par 80, but she got plenty of help from her teammates, too.

Sophomore Madeline Mitchell was third overall with a 97 and junior Courtney Bridges shot a 111 and finished in 10th as the Mustangs were 26 shots better than second-place Dallas Center-Grimes.

“I am really proud of these girls as the weather didn’t turn out to be very nice, and they played in a chilly drizzle most of the meet,” PCM coach Val Edwards said.

PCM shot a 404 to win the team title, while DCG carded a 430 in second. Panorama finished with a 453, Roland-Story shot a 459 and host Bondurant-Farrar had a 469 to round out the top five.

Collins-Maxwell/Baxter also was in the field, and the Raiders were sixth with a 524. Iowa Falls-Alden and Ankeny Christian Academy did not have enough players to factor into the team score.

Maher shot a 40 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine to win the tournament easily. The 80 was a new 18-hole school record at PCM.

Sophomore Ellie Steenhoek was the final counting score for PCM. She shot a 116 to finish in 15th. Sophomore Sabrina Reed carded a non-counting score of 120 and finished in 19th, while senior Abby Van Haaften shot a 127.

CMB was led by Abbie Ericson’s 124. Courtney Clapper and Brynne Pritchard were two strokes back at 126, and the final counting score was Katie Garber’s 146.

Maher won the meet by 14 shots over Dallas Center-Grimes’ Julia Austin, who shot a 94. Mitchell was the only other golfer to shoot better than 100.

PCM and CMB both play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the West Marshall Invitational.
