Lynnville-Sully girls capture Lew Lundy Relays’ Class B title

MONTEZUMA — Winning five of the seven relay races and three individual races, Lynnville-Sully’s girls captured the Class B division championship Tuesday at the 2016 Lew Lundy Relays hosted by Montezuma High School.

Lynnville-Sully topped the eight-team field with 141 points. The Hawks scored points in 15 of the 17 events.

Jataya Meyer and Makenzy Rozendaal went 1-2 in the 100-meter dash. Meyer won the race in 13.65 seconds and Makenzy Rozendaal was second in 14.17.

Meyer claimed the gold medal in the 200 meters in 28.47 seconds with teammate Shiloh Cunningham in fifth in 31.23 seconds. Mariah Vos posted a winning time of 1 minute 15.60 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Hawks dominated the relay races winning the 4x100, the 4x200, the 4x400, the 800-meter sprint medley and the 400-meter shuttle hurdle relay.

“After two runner-up finishes out of three previous meets, this was a true total team effort,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Derek Arkema said. “It is always fun to win a meet, but even better knowing each athlete had an impact to that success.”

The foursome of Kasiah Ehresman, Makenzy Rozendaal, Camyrn Russell and Brenna Lanser won the 4x100 relay in 54.04 seconds. Ehesman, Russell and Lanser combined with Carson Fisk for a winning time of 1:53.30 in the 4x200 relay.

The 4x400 relay team of Hailey Scandridge, Vos, Fisk and Ehresman won in 4:31.41. In the sprint medley race, it was the team of Russell, Makenzy Rozendaal, Lanser and Julie Ranch-Holm winning in 2:06.83.

Vos, Scandridge, Shelby Foster and Kaylee Maasdam had the winning time of 1:18.41 in the shuttle hurdle relay race. Foster took fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 19.66 seconds.

Lynnville-Sully’s 4x800 relay team of Ranch-Holm, Makayla Rozendaal, Shaleah Van Wyk and Emily Van Gorp turned in a second-place time of 11:56.34. Taking second in the 1,600 distance medley relay race was the team of Skyler Young, Madison Johnson, Alexis Hardenbrook and Haley Breeden in 5:16.22.

Makayla Rozendaal finished third in the 1,500 meters in 5:58.59 and Breeden was fourth in 6:44.52. In the 3,000 meters, Haley James ran fourth in 14:49.85 and Breeden was fifth in 14:55.66.

Van Wyk placed fifth in the 400 metros in 1:13.51. Van Gorp finished sixth in the 800 in 2:55.38.

Fisk took third in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 6 3/4 inches with Scandridge placing fifth in 13-9. Isabella Bogaard was fourth in the discus with a throw of 72-7.

The Hawk girls compete at 4:30 p.m. Friday at a meet hosted by BGM in Brooklyn.
