Hoover hands Mustangs road defeat

DES MOINES — The Prairie City-Monroe girls’ soccer team controlled the pace of the match and took more shots at the goal but still came up on the wrong end of the scoreboard during a 2-0 loss against Des Moines Hoover on Tuesday.

“We controlled the game but just couldn’t catch a break,” PCM coach Bill Sowder said. “Even though we lost, the score doesn’t indicate how the game went. We just need to figure out how to finish.”

Both Hoover (1-0) goals bounced off the crossbar and then a player before getting past PCM goalie McKeely Tjaden.

“There’s not much you can do about those,” Sowder said. “We played strong defense and had the best passing I have seen since I have been here. We played well enough to win.”

The Mustangs (0-1) return to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday as they host Collins-Maxwell/Baxter in Monroe.
