• Mary B. Hughes, 49, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence, failure to obey traffic control device and open container after authorities pulled her over at 2:02 a.m. Wednesday. Officers saw a vehicle travel through a street light while it turned red. They initiated a stop but the vehicle did not immediately pull over. When the driver, Hughes, did stop, she said she was trying to find a safe place to pull over. Officers saw Hughes had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle. Officers also saw an open container holding alcohol in the rear of the vehicle. She had a BAC of .125. She was cited and released to appear.

• Jwan T. Roush, 18, of Newton, is charged with fourth-degree theft after authorities were called at 11:49 p.m. Feb. 29 to Walmart. Officers were called about an employee theft and told that Roush had taken a Play Station 4 out of the box and put it in his backpack before leaving. Roush said he owed somebody money and used the stolen game system to pay back the debt. The item is valued at $349. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
