GILBERT — The Prairie City-Monroe boys basketball team struggled to make shots Tuesday night during a Heart of Iowa Conference game with first-place Gilbert.
As a result, the Mustangs are no longer in the running for a share of the HOIC championship.
PCM made 18-of-54 from the floor and couldn’t overcome a 20-7 deficit in the second quarter during a 58-46 road loss to the Tigers on Tuesday night.
The win wrapped up the HOIC title for Gilbert, which improved to 12-3 in conference play. At 10-5, PCM can tie for second with a win at Greene County on Friday. The Mustangs will tie North Polk for third in the league with a loss and a Comet win at Roland-Story.
Senior Logan Gilman had a tough shooting night. PCM’s leading scorer came into the game averaging more than 20 points per game but was held to 11 on 3-of-16 shooting. He had four rebounds and four assists.
Junior Luke Greiner led the way for PCM with 18 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Freshman Andrew Van Ryswyk scored a career-high 10 points.
Gilbert improved to 14-4 on the year. PCM dropped to 13-7.
