CMB’s Robertson extends season, advances to district tournament

ADEL — Only one Collins-Maxwell/Baxter wrestler survived the first round of postseason action.

CMB senior Charles Robertson locked up a spot in this weekend’s district tournament following a runner-up finish at the Class 2A Sectional 11 tourney at ADM High School on Saturday.

Robertson went 1-1 on the day, losing 3-1 in the championship match and then winning by fall in a 220-pound wrestleback. Robertson will take a 29-4 record into districts.

Evan Bianchi (22-11) was the No. 1 seed at 170 pounds. He won his first match by a 12-3 major decision but then lost by fall in the finals. In the wrestleback for a true second, Bianchi was defeated 6-0 by Ballard’s Ben Lee.

Logan Mitchell (195) and Archer McFadden (285) both lost in the semifinals of their respective weight brackets. They both recovered to win their third-place bouts, but neither wrestler got a chance to wrestleback.

Caleb Fullerton placed fourth at 126 and Ethan Cozad was fourth at 145. CMB had four open weights.

The Raiders placed fifth in the team standings, edging Heart of Iowa Conference rival North Polk by a single point. Host ADM won the team title with 244.5 points and Ballard was second with 232 points.

Robertson wrestles at noon Saturday in the 2A District 6 meet in Knoxville.
