IHSAA releases boys hoops pairings for 1A, 2A

The Lynnville-Sully boys’ basketball team has earned itself a No. 1 seed for the upcoming Class 1A District 10 tournament later this month.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released its pairings for 1A and 2A, and the Hawks will have a first-round bye after coming out on top of a tiebreaker with Meskwaki Settlement School.

The Hawks, now 16-1, and the Warriors were both 14-1 after 15 games, but Lynnville-Sully scored more points based on the competition in which it played. L-S will play the winner of South Iowa Cedar League rivals HLV (3-14) and English Valleys (1-17) at 8 p.m. on Feb. 18 in Sully.

The semifinals for District 10 will be Feb. 23 at Meskwaki Settlement. The district championship is 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 in Marshalltown. The Substate 5 championship game is 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.

The rest of the District 10 bracket includes quarterfinal games between Belle Plaine (12-6) and North Tama (6-13), Meskwaki Settlement (15-2) and Iowa Valley (3-15) and BGM (11-8) and GMG (5-13).

Colfax-Mingo is the No. 4 seed out of 1A District 12. The Tigerhawks (11-6) will face Twin Cedars (11-9) at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Colo-NESCO.

Colo-NESCO, ranked fifth and sitting at 16-1 on the year, is seeded second and will play the late game on Feb. 18 against Iowa Christian Academy (9-8).

The top seed is ninth-ranked Grand View Christian (17-0). The Thunder will meet the winner between Southeast Warren (1-16) and Melcher-Dallas (1-16) in the quarterfinals on Feb. 18. That victor plays the Colfax-Mingo/Twin Cedars winner at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Colo-NESCO.

The District 12 bracket also includes a quarterfinal matchup between Ankeny Christian Academy (16-2) and Martensdale-St. Marys (4-13).

The district semifinals are at Colo-NESCO on Feb. 23 with those winners playing the district championship game at Ankeny on Feb. 25. The Substate 6 championship game is slated for 7 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Knoxville.

Prairie City-Monroe and Collins-Maxwell/Baxter are both in 2A District 13.

The Mustangs earned a bye after locking up the No. 2 seed with a 10-5 mark. PCM, now 12-5, meets the winner between Madrid (10-7) and Woodward-Granger (2-15) at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Des Moines Christian.

The 8 p.m. game on Feb. 18 features top-seeded and ninth-ranked Des Moines Christian (15-3). The Lions face either CMB (2-15) or Woodward Academy (5-13), which face off at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 in Madrid.

The Madrid/W-G quarterfinal game follows CMB-Woodward Academy at 8 p.m. on Feb. 15.

The District 13 championship game is 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 at a site to be determined. The Substate 7 final is 7 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Waukee.
