Robert Alan Parsons, 54, of Soldotna, Alaska, formerly of Kellogg and Newton passed away of cancer on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.

The eldest son of Daryle W. and Judy Callison Parsons-Jones, he was born in Grinnell on Nov. 3, 1961.

Bob received his elementary education in the Kellogg Schools, Graduating From Newton Community High School in 1980. He received a Maytag Scholarship. He was awarded a degree in architectural drafting from DMACC in Ankeny.

His childhood found him in little league and Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts where he held all offices. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed the campouts tremendously.

High school days found him managing several sports teams, of which he enjoyed very much.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years, stationed in Japan as well as many other places. He served in the Desert Storm conflict with his ship anchored on shore if needed.

Formerly employed by Cline Tool in the computer field, he most recently enjoyed his photography business taking photos of Alaska’s beautiful scenery.

Bob married Jolene Michelle Gordon in Conroe, Texas, while in the Navy, on Oct. 12, 1991.

Highlights of his life were deer hunting in Texas with his father-in-law, Charlie Gordon.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Jolene, of Alaska; mother-in-law, Annette Gordon of Texas, his mother, Judy Parsons-Jones of Newton/Kellogg; his step-father, Albert Jones, also of Newton/Kellogg; his two brothers, Kevin of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeff Parsons of Kellogg. He is also survived by his four stepsisters, Pam (Dwight) Cleverley and Denice Smith of Goodman, Mo., Laura Lee Danley of Newton and Susan (Rob) Ham of Reasnor, as well as three nephews and two nieces of the immediate family.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Daryle Parsons, on Oct. 15, 2007; his father-in- law, Charlie Gordon June 9, 2015, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.

No services are scheduled locally. His body has been cremated.
