Prayer War

Discover Hope to host event Saturday

A vision from Discover Hope leader Rob Robinson led to the development of a prayer event scheduled for Saturday at Community Heights Alliance Church.

“Declaring Spiritual War in our Community” will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. with five different prayer topics touching on different areas in the community.

“The idea actually came from my mentor. We were talking about the different things that have been happening in the community and we thought we should do a big prayer and declare a prayer war in our community,” Robinson said.

The prayer schedule begins with a 5 to 5:30 p.m. prayer session for churches, with prayers for human services following from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Prayers for law enforcement is next from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and prayers for healing will take place from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The event concludes with an hour-long prayer for bondage of addiction from 7 to 8 p.m.

“The focus areas came from me just praying and asking God for specific direction within the community, like those who have been affected by addiction. Aaron Groves (sheriff’s deputy) is my partner in this and law enforcement is a big thing for him,” Robinson said. “Human services deals with a lot of the effects from mental health issues and addiction issues within the community. Finally, healing. People need healing, ask God to deliver them from those addictions and break those bonds and continue the healing process.”

Robinson said the event is open to the public and anyone is invited to attend.

“We have invited churches from Des Moines, Pella and those here in Newton. We invite whoever wants to attend and be a part of it can come,” Robinson said. “It is three hours, from 5 to 8 p.m., so people can come for any part of it they want.”

If community members have specific prayers they would like to bring to the event, prayer teams will be on hand for one-on-one sessions.

“We will have prayer teams from a few of the different churches in Newton and Discover Hope to take prayer request. They will also be able to do individual prayers for people if they have specific prayer requests,” Robinson said.
