BROOKLYN — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks knew the final two matches in their wrestling dual with Iowa Valley would give Tigers 12 points. The Hawks led 33-24 with three matches remaining.
Shannon Dunsbergen’s 285-pound match against Iowa Valley’s Gabe Hartman was the lynchpin for the Hawks. They needed a win to at least forge a tie. The senior didn’t disappoint.
Dunsbergen and Hartman gave the two teams’ fans their money’s worth. They went into the third period scoreless. Dunsbergen was on the bottom and scored an escape. Dunsbergen’s win gave Lynnville-Sully three team points to make it 36-24.
Iowa Valley scored 12 points with forfeit wins at 106 and 113 tie the dual at 36-all. Lynnville-Sully won the tiebreaker to claim a 37-36 dual victory over the Tigers.
Winning four of the five contest matches against host BGM and getting six forfeit victories, the Hawks defeated the Bears, 58-12. Iowa Valley beat BGM, 51-12, in the double dual of South Iowa Cedar League teams.
Shannon Dunsbergen went 2-0 on the night, pinning BGM’s Kyle Kilmer in 1 minute, 14 seconds. Josh Dunsbergen at 120 pounds, Bryson Barnett at 145 and Max Knapp were 2-0, but each recorded a win by forfeit.
Ty Breeden pinned Iowa Valley’s Drew Slaymaker in 3:27 at 132 pounds, and he won by forfeit at 126 pounds against BGM. In the 182-pound division, the Hawks’ Jack Hardin went to the third period against Class 1A sixth-ranked Colton Massengale of BGM. Massengale got the win by a fall.
Lynnville-Sully’s Sage Zylstra took 35 seconds to pin BGM’s Dalton Alexander at 138. Zylstra succumbed to a fall himself against Class 1A second-ranked Jacob Krakow of Iowa Valley.
Cayden Johnson had a win by a fall over BGM’s Tylor Kane and lost by a fall to Iowa Valley’s Dylan Healey in 152-pound matches.
Lynnville-Sully improved to 7-3 in dual action. The Hawks compete in a tournament Saturday at Wayne.
