Count your blessings, be grateful

James Wilson McKinstry

What families do during the holidays has a variety of answers.  Some go to church many watch ball games, some work their way through a stack of video movies, others run around the house snapping photos as people unwrap gifts while others travel abroad or to sports events and so it goes.

A few still slide down hills, make snow men if there is a snow to be had. Almost everyone over indulges in food and there are those that drink a little more than they should. Many folks sit alone in nursing homes, or go to a restaurant for a dinner or stay in their homes alone just remembering the days of long ago. I do not believe there is any real format or should there be as to how every person or family should enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s Eve other than it should be a day for counting ones blessings and being thankful for being born. Just like the movie “It’s a wonderful life.”

I am most certainly glad I was born into this varied world of non-perfect people and governments. The ideal picture of a family or world might be sitting in front of a fireplace with those you love or maybe riding in a sleigh or some other beautiful Rockwell paintings scene. What was your picture of the holidays?
