• Hannah K. Smith, 24, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding after authorities pulled her over at 11:54 p.m. Nov. 10 in the 800 block of South Eighth Avenue East. Officers saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. They made contact with the driver and smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. Smith also had red, dilated eyes. Smith admitted to smoking a couple hours before as well as having a pipe and marijuana in the vehicle. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• A 15-year-old juvenile is charged with assault on persons in certain occupations, interference with official acts inflicting bodily injury and possession of a controlled substance after authorities were called at 10:43 p.m. Nov. 12 to 223 E. Fourth St. N. Officers were called about a suspicious van and found two females, one identified as the juvenile. She took off from the vehicle after officers identified her as a runaway. She was stopped and began fighting with the officers, kicking and biting them. She continued to resist while she was put into the patrol vehicle. Officers found marijuana in her pocket as well as lighters and a knife. She was transported to Eldora.

• Paul A. Rex, 49, of Newton, is charged with public intoxication after authorities were called at 5:16 p.m. Nov. 9 to the 700 block of North 15th Avenue West. Officers were called about an intoxicated male and found prescription medication. He refused to stop for officers, but eventually stopped and officers smelled alcohol coming from him. He also had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. He said he had drank that day but not very much. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Sheriff’s Office

• William J. Steckel, 51, of Monroe, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called at 8:38 p.m. Saturday to 10474 W. 24th St. S., Monroe. Officers were called about an assault at the residence. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
