Genealogical Society to host open house

The Jasper County Genealogical Society has moved its location to the County Annex, 115 N. Second Ave. E., in Newton. An open house will be held this from 9:30 to 11:30 Saturday. The library is located at the back entrance to the building.

The society, formed in 1977, provides materials to assist people in locating family members who have lived in Jasper County. These materials include some birth, death and marriage records, as well as some adoption, pension, military, probate and census. There are also family histories, maps, obituaries, community histories and City of Newton Directories. There are also reference books from other Iowa counties and other states.

This is an opportunity for the public to visit the newly located library to view our collection and meet avid genealogists who can assist in starting or continuing a genealogy project. The microfilm reader will be on to show its collection of microfilms on a variety of topics.

There also will be several tables of items for sale that relate to Jasper County genealogy, including history books, early Newton High School yearbooks and more. There are also two microfiche machines for sale.
