Newton man charged in drug task force arrest

A Newton man faces several charges, including possession with intent to deliver more than 5 grams of methamphetamine after a drug search was conducted by the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task on Tuesday.

Leonard “Lenny” Delorenzo, 64, is also charged with possession of a firearm as a felon, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after a search warrant was administered at 609 S. Third. Ave. E.

Officers from the Newton Police Department and the task force executed the drug search warrant; Delorenzo was then taken to the Jasper County Jail where he is being held on a $66,300 bond.

The Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force is based in Des Moines and includes the Jasper, Mahaska and Marion County sheriff’s offices and Knoxville, Newton and Pella Police Departments.
