Ottumwa murder trial delayed until November

OTTUMWA — A murder trial has been delayed for a 31-year-old man accused of fatally beating another man outside a bar in Ottumwa.

The trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 3 for Kendrick Jackson. It had been set to begin Oct. 6. Jackson is accused of beating Maekele Hagos outside The Elbow Room on Sept. 7 last year. Authorities say Hagos died later at a hospital in Iowa City. Jackson’s attorneys have filed notice that they intend to argue that he acted in self-defense.
