Woman faces charges in $23K adult abuse case

Victim is 77-year-old Newton woman

A Wisconsin woman was arrested after allegedly making unauthorized purchases totaling more than $23,000 from the accounts of a Newton woman who was in her care.

Renee S. Goeldner, 47, of Beaver Dam, Wis., is charged with first-degree theft and dependent adult abuse-financial exploitation following an investigation by the Newton Police Department.

Police were alerted to the possible abuse on April 6. During the investigation, Goeldner was identified as the caretaker and conservator of the 77-year-old victim. Between Jan. 13, 2014 and April 6, 2015, officers found that she had made unauthorized purchases for personal gain from the victim's bank accounts totaling $23,554.66.

Goeldner was arrested on Monday and taken to the Jasper County Jail were she was released on a $10,000 bond.
