Her purple plane party

Another birthday party is in the books. My youngest turns 3 this week, and we celebrated her birthday Sunday with a purple airplane party.

For quite some time, my youngest has been able to spot airplanes in the sky. They can be super small and hardly visible and she will find them and scream, “Airplane!” She loves for things to fly around and talks about flying in the sky all of the time.

I decided to give her the choice of her party’s theme. She could decide between Minnie Mouse, farm animals and airplanes. She picked airplanes both times I asked and since purple is her favorite color — and who doesn’t love a little alliteration — we started planning our purple plane party.

Finding decorations, favors or basically anything for an airplane party proved to be very difficult. I ended up doing most things homemade with paper airplanes and balloons that formed clouds. I did find gummy planes, kazoos and suckers online to help round out the theme.

In order to help them kiddos “fly” around, the centerpiece of the party was an inflatable bounce house. The kids, and some adults, loved it, and it was definitely a hit to potentially be used a future parties.

I made some of her favorite foods with shake and bake chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, apples and grapes. I tried my hand at cake decorating, and although it wasn’t the masterpiece that my professional friend would have delivered, it covered the bases of being purple, sparkly and pretty tasty.

Another activity I had for the kids was plane decorating and flying. I found foam, white airplanes that are about a foot long that they colored and put stickers on, then sent soaring all over the backyard. Some even ending up flying in the bounce house and crashing there, as well.

My youngest loved everything, from watching the bounce house inflate (magic) to having friends come over and play and of course, opening her mountain of presents. She had everyone cracking up when we started to sing “Happy Birthday” and she immediately blew out her candles without waiting until the end of the song.

Because her actual birthday isn’t until later this week, we saved one big surprise for the big day. Her and her sister will be getting new kittens. They both love to pretend to be cats and each have a play cat that meows and walks.

I hear a lot about what they would do with a cat and how cute and cuddly they are. I hope by getting two the kittens can grow up together and the girls will each have their own, saving the cats from being fought over.

The kittens will be mainly outdoors, living in a large shed or the garage when it is cold. They will have free reign over three acres full of trees, long grass, and I’m sure some tasty rodents that may end up on my doorstep.

But don’t tell the girls, because it is a surprise for the big day!
