Frustrated by IDOT plans, lack of local official’s involvement

Crickets. That’s all hear from my Iowa House Rep. Dan Kelley, in regard to the IDOT Highway 330 redesign that is taking people’s land and pushing them from their homesteads. My friends and neighbors are going to lose their property and their elected representative can’t make the time to attend a meeting or get involved.

This whole scenario is really complex and we have to find away to address to the obvious safety concerns present. There have been numerous redesign submissions that took far less land from my neighbors. Why is the IDOT opting for the plan that consumes a vast amount of ground compared to the others?

The primary function of an Iowa House Representative is to provide a voice for their constituents. This is especially necessary when it comes to the David and Goliath scenario we see unfolding today with this IDOT/ Highway 330 debacle. I’ve seen my local mayor, current and former state senators, county supervisors, multiple law enforcement officers, and many other elected officials present for these meetings over the years, but never have I seen Dan Kelley.

Five public meetings since 2009. Seventy acres of easements to be gobbled up. Twelve landowners forever impacted. Two homes to be stripped from the owners and torn down. Dan Kelley is quiet again on the issues that his constituents are fighting all by themselves, and the silence is deafening.
