Hawks win on Senior Night

SULLY — On Senior Night, Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks rolled to a 13-3 win over visiting HLV’s Warriors in South Iowa Cedar League baseball action Friday. The Hawks won in a five-inning contest, keeping the Warriors winless on the season.

Senior Jake Brand was on the mound, delivering a one-hitter for the Hawks. He walked three and struck out three. Brand singled in the game.

Senior Lucas Smith went 3-for-4 with a double and two base hits. Seniors Caleb James and Baker Zegers each scored runs.

James drew two walks and singled and came home once. Zegers scored twice and walked once.

Lynnville-Sully plated six runs in the first inning. The Warriors scored twice in the third, which was countered by a three-run bottom of the inning by the Hawks. HLV scored once in the fourth and Lynnville-Sully pushed across three runs. The Hawks ended the game with a run in the fifth for the 10-run margin.

Noah Engle was 2-for-3 with four RBIs on a triple and a home run. Caden Dunsbergen doubled and Kobe Fisk singled.

The Hawks finished SICL play at 12-8. They take a 13-11 mark into Class 1A District 11 play against Colo-NESCO Tuesday. The game is at 7 p.m. in Sully.

Lynnville-Sully is hosting a semifinal and the championship game of the 1A district tournament.
