Mustang baseball loses despite collecting 14 hits

REINBECK — The Prairie City-Monroe baseball team cranked out 14 hits and scored 15 runs but suffered a 16-15 loss to Gladbrook-Reinbeck in non-conference action on Wednesday.

Clay Cooper had three hits, three RBIs, two runs and one walk, while Noah Clark also had three hits and three RBIs and added one run and one walk.

Tyler Foster’s only hit was a three-run home run.

Trey Lindsay had one hit, walked three times, stole three bases and scored four runs from the lead-off spot. Chase Keuning added two hits and two runs and Ethan Thomas had two hits and Sheldon Speers scored two runs and had two RBIs and walked twice.

Austin Brown doubled, walked twice and scored a run.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck (10-10) led 4-1 after one inning, but PCM tied it with three runs in the second. The Rebels scored two in the third and five in the fourth before rebounding with five more runs in the sixth after PCM took the lead with a nine-run top of the sixth inning.

PCM plated one run in the seventh but couldn’t get back in front. The Mustangs dropped to 6-13 on the year, and they’ll play at home against Class 3A No. 6 Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

COLLINS — Brady Stover collected Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s only hit and Wes Greder struck out seven on the mound for 3A No. 6 Gilbert in Heart of Iowa Conference action on Wednesday.

The first-place Tigers (23-4 overall, 15-1 in HOIC) scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth but a nine-run third allowed the game to end after five innings.

Dax Hatfield had two runs, two hits and two RBIs for Gilbert, while Jacob Adams had two hits and three RBIs.

Nathan Chasey also had two hits and Nick Day, Evan Johnson and Chasey scored two runs.

Nate Bishop started and allowed eight runs — three earned — on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. Creighton Caple allowed three hits and two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings, and Brad Ritter threw the fifth and allowed one run on one hit and three walks.

CMB (6-13, 6-9) hosts Saydel at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
