Sixth-ranked Hawks rolls to easy softball win

NORTH ENGLISH — The Lynnville-Sully softball team scored early and often in its 18-1 win over English Valleys on Tuesday night during South Iowa Cedar League play.

The Class 1A No. 6 Hawks plated three in the first and second innings and then crossed homeplate five more times in third and scored six in the fifth to end it early.

In all, the Hawks (26-3 overall, 16-0 in South Iowa Cedar League) cranked out 18 hits and stole 12 bases.

Madison Rasmusson homered twice, finished 4-of-5 and had five RBIs to lead the Hawks at the plate.

Rasmusson also threw the first three innings in the circle and allowed just one hit and unearned run while walking two and striking out three.

Maria Rasmusson tossed the final two innings and gave up two hits and fanned one.

Lysandra James also had four hits at the plate for the Hawks, who won their fifth straight.

James also scored three times and drove in three with a homer.

Kasiah Ehresman had three hits, three runs and four stolen bases.

Lizzi VanManen and Brenna Lanser each had two hits, and VanManen had two runs while Lanser stole three bases.

Jelissa Rozendaal hit a solo home run in the victory for the Hawks, who travel to North Mahaska on Wednesday.

English Valleys dropped to 3-20 overall and 3-16 in SICL play. It lost for the fifth straight game.
