Tigerhawks tumble, PCM, Lynnville-Sully and CMB roll

Area Softball Roundup —

COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo’s Tigerhawks scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh. It wasn’t enough to counter an eight-run fourth had by the Colo-NESCO Royals. The Tigerhawks lost a non-conference game at home, 8-5, Tuesday.

Each team put up eight hits in the contest. It was the pitchers for each team — Reis Wilson for Colfax-Mingo and Mackenna Ruffcorn for Colo-NESCO — who did the damage at the plate also.

After the Royals had two walks and five consecutive singles in the fourth, Ruffcorn hammered out a grand slam, putting Colo-NESCO up 8-0.

Colfax-Mingo produced a run in the bottom of the fourth. Wilson doubled and Erin Earles provided a two-out RBI single. Wilson was 3-for-3 on the night with a single, a double and a triple.

There was no more scoring until the Tigerhawks came to bat in the seventh. Brooke Nicholson started things with a single and Mackenzie Brown drew a walk. Delaney Underwood reached on a fielder’s choice as Nicholson was forced out at third base.

Alivia Haley connected for a base hit to right field followed by a two-run double to left field by Amy Russell. Wilson singled in a run followed by a sacrifice fly by Rhiannon Haley for another run.

The Royals were able to halt the Tigerhawk rally there, securing the win.

Russell had the double. Hitting a single each we’re Alivia Haley, Earles, Nicholson and Brown.

Colfax-Mingo is 4-17 overall. It takes a 3-8 record into Wednesday’s Heart of Iowa Conference game at home against Roland-Story.
