PCM 11, Colfax-Mingo 7

MONROE — In a rival game between Heart of Iowa Conference neighbors Prairie City-Monroe and Colfax-Mingo Monday, host PCM beat Colfax-Mingo 11-7.

The Tigerhawks dug out of a 5-0 hole with five runs in the top of the fourth, but the PCM Mustangs climbed back in the lead, scoring three in their half of the inning. PCM jumped to the lead on a five-run third inning.

After retaking the lead, the Mustangs held the Tigerhawks to single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. PCM took advantage of two C-M errors in the sixth to plate three more runs.

“We looked good hitting in the fourth inning, but didn’t perform like that in other innings,” said Bryan Poulter, Tigerhawk head coach. “Ries Wilson had a great home run and night at the plate overall. Rhiannon Haley hit the ball hard all night.”

Wilson planted a Rachel Freland pitch over the right field fence for a two-run home run to spark the Tigerhawks’ five-run fourth. She also had a single in the game. Rhiannon Haley and Erin Earles each had a double in the game, while Colbee Cunningham and Delaney Underwood hit a single apiece.

The Mustangs cranked out 11 hits, all but one were singles, against three C-M pitchers. Kayla Jennings went 3-for-3 with three base hits, including a two-run single in the third inning. Jennings drove in four runs for PCM.

Molly Vignovich and Jayci Vos each had two singles in the game. Abby Waddell tripled while Katie VandeWall, Courtney Bridges and Camryn Wignall each had a single. Vos and Waddell had two RBIs apiece.

Freland went the distance in the circle for the Mustangs, claiming the win. She gave up seven hits, issued four walks and struck out six Tigerhawk batters.

Amy Russell started in the circle for Colfax-Mingo, but worked just three innings. Russell was charged with five runs on five hits and one walk and had one strikeout. Wilson pitched two innings, allowing six runs on five hits and two walks. Cunningham had one inning of work and gave up one hit.

PCM improved to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in HOIC play. The Mustangs play Collins-Maxwell/Baxter Wednesday at Collins in HOIC action.

Colfax-Mingo dropped to 4-16 overall and 3-8 in conference play. The Tigerhawks host Colo-NESCO Tuesday in non-conference action in Colfax.
