Newton’s Davidson earns LHC soccer honors

Grant Davidson received All-Little Hawkeye Conference second-team honors as Newton High’s goalkeeper in 2015.

The senior’s name was inadvertenly absent from the NHS list announced on June 12. Four other NHS players received honors — Garrett Sturtz, Josh Ventling, Brock Southern and Dalton Nevels

Davidson had 137 saves in 18 starts as goalie for the Cardinals. That was 12th in Class 2A. He allowed 29 goals.

His save percentage was 82.5, which was second to Dallas Center-Grimes’ Ethan Dunn’s 87.3 perecent. Ben Boston of Oskaloosa had 152 saves to lead the conference.

Davidson has been selected to play in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association’s 2015 East-West All-Star Cup Saturday. In cooperation with the Des Moines Menace Premier Development League Soccer team and the Women’s Premier Soccer League team, the two all-star games will be played before the Menace home games.

The girls’ game is at 2:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ game. The games are played at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.
