Lynnville-Sully decks Sigourney

When the top two teams in the South Iowa Cedar League played Friday night, the Class 1A seventh-ranked Lynnville-Sully Hawks pulled out a 4-2 win over host Sigourney.

The Hawks built a 4-0 lead with single runs in the second and fifth innings and plating two runs in the fourth. The Savages scored a run in the fifth to avoid the shutout and added another run in the sixth.

Lynnville-Sully improved to 11-0 in conference play while Sigourney (17-6) dropped to 13-2. The Hawks pushed their overall mark to 19-2.

Madison Rasmusson issued one walk and allowed seven hits as Lynnville-Sully’s winning pitcher. She struck out six. Jordan Carter pitched for Sigourney.

Kasiah Ehresman and Madison Rasmusson each had two singles. Lizzy Van Mannen and Haley James had a single apiece. Lysandra James drove in two runs.

Lynnville-Sully hosts Iowa Valley in SICL play Monday.

South Hamilton 3, Colfax-Mingo 0

COLFAX — After four scoreless innings, South Hamilton used a solo home run by Ronnie Olson and an error by Colfax-Mingo to score two runs in the fifth. The Hawks added a run in the sixth, and held the Tigerhawks at bay for a 3-0 win Friday.

Colfax-Mingo and South Hamilton went into the Heart of Iowa game all even — 3-6 — in conference play. The Tigerhawks are 4-15 overall and 3-7 in HOIC action.

Amy Russell took the pitching loss, going seven innings and allowing six hits and walking one. She struck out five.

Amy Russell connected for a single and a double and Ries Wilson had two singles. Hitting a single apiece were Rhiannon Haley, Chelsea Russell, Colbee Cunningham and Mackensie Brown.

Greene County 10, PCM 2

MONORE — Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs were right with visiting Greene County, the No. 4 team in Class 3A, through four innings at home Friday. Greene County broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fifth inning.

The Rams pelted the Mustangs with a 17-hit attack — 16 singles. They piled on two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh on their way to a 10-2 win.

Greene County improved to 10-0 in Heart of Iowa Conference play and 15-2 overall. PCM dropped to 7-4 in conference action and 12-7 overall.

Rachel Freland struck out eight batters in a losing effort for the Mustangs. Jayci Vos had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run. Molly Vignovich had two hits.

East Marshall 4, CMB 3

LE GRAND — On the road against Class 3A’s No. 3 East Marshall, Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s Raiders came close to an upset. The Raiders rallied from a 4-1 deficit to score twice in the seventh inning.

The Mustangs turned the Raiders away at that point, claiming a 4-3 victory. The Raiders left the tying run at third base.

Abbey Kahler took the pitching loss. Mackenzie Schmitz, Megan Ritter, and Payge Jurgens each had singles. Jurgens had two RBIs. Abbey Appelgate doubled. Mikayla Eslinger hammered out a home run.
