PCM completes season sweep of South Hamilton

JEWELL — The Mustangs completed the season sweep of South Hamilton with an easy 11-2 win on Wednesday.

Trey Lindsay had two hits, two RBIs and two runs, Connor Warrick chipped in two runs and two RBIs and Noah Clark drove in three as the Mustangs plated three in the second inning, four in the fifth and four in the seventh to win easily.

Austin Brown, Clay Cooper and Jerod DeVries all had two hits as well. Brown drove in two, Cooper scored twice and Noah Clark had three RBIs. Chase Kuecker scored three times and had three steals as a courtesy runner.

Gunnar Davis started on the mound and earned the win.

Davis allowed two hits and fanned seven over six innings. Noah Henkenius threw the final inning and allowed no runs, no hits and walked two.

PCM (4-8 overall, 3-5 in Heart of Iowa Conference) plays twice Thursday.

The Mustangs challenge Class 3A No. 7 Gilbert at noon at Principal Park in Des Moines and then host Roland-Story in Prairie City at 7:30 p.m.

Lynnville-Sully 10, HLV 4

VICTOR — Playing an even game across the board, Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks came out with a 10-4 road win in South Iowa Cedar League action against host HLV Wednesday.

The Hawks scored two runs each in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to wipe out an early 2-0 Warrior lead. Lynnville-Sully led 8-4 heading into the sixth. The Hawks added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the win.

Senior Jake Brand (2-3) struck out eight Warriors to up his season strikeout total to 34. He allowed eight hits and walked three.

Kyle Van Dyke ripped out two doubles for the Hawks. Brand and Caden Dunsbergen each went 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles apiece. Dunsbergen drove in three runs.

Baker Zegers, Tyler Van Zante, Ross Van Wyk, Lucas Smith and Caleb James each had a single. Zegers recorded two RBIs.

Lynnville-Sully improved to 7-3 in SICL play and 8-4 overall while keeping HLV winless for the season (0-10, 0-11). The Hawks are on the road again Friday at Sigourney.

Nevada 4, CMB 1

COLLINS — The Cubs completed the season sweep of Collins-Maxwell/Baxter on Wednesday. Nevada scored first and never trailed in improving to 5-10 overall and 3-7 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.

Seth Balke had two of the Raiders’ seven hits at the plate. Brady Ross singled and collected an RBI while Spencer Gauch singled and scored the Raiders’ only run in the seventh inning.

The Raiders left seven runners on base and lost their fifth straight game.

Tucker Maxwell started on the mound and allowed two earned runs on three hits in five innings.

Creighton Caple tossed two scoreless frames and allowed one hit.

Tyler Shafer fanned eight Raiders and walked just two in earning the complete-game win. He also had a double and two RBIs at the plate.

CMB plays at Greene County at 7:30 p.m. Friday before playing in the Rose Festival Tournament in State Center on Saturday.

The Raiders will play host West Marshall at 11 a.m. and Prairie City-Monroe at 1 p.m.

Colfax-Mingo 0, 6 innings

JEFFERSON — The Rams snapped a three-game skid with a win over the Tigerhawks at home on Wednesday.

Jacob Buehrer had two singles to lead the Colfax-Mingo offense. Adam Teed and Jimmy Camp both singled once.

Teed took the loss on the mound after allowing five runs — four earned — over the first three innings.

Alex Lewis threw the final 2 2/3 innings in relief and allowed four runs — two earned.

Greene County (8-6 overall, 6-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference play) recorded the season sweep over Colfax-Mingo. The Rams won 12-0 in Colfax earlier this year.

Colfax-Mingo (0-12, 0-9) hosts Colo-NESCO at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in non-conference action and then stays home Friday to face South Hamilton in a HOIC tilt.
