Kahler throws perfect game in Raiders’ win

COLLINS — Sophomore Abbey Kahler threw a perfect game in the circle, junior Payge Jurgens blasted her fourth home run of the season and the Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak with a 10-0, five-inning win over Nevada.

CMB had 10 hits total in the win. Jurgens’ homer was a three-run shot, and she also doubled and drove in four runs. Megan Ritter had two hits, including a two-run double and MacKenzie Schmitz, Kahler, Abbey Appelgate, Veronica Condon and Avery Hlavacek all had one hit.

Schmitz, Ritter and Katie Camp all scored two runs and Schmitz and Kahler each walked once.

Mikayla Eslinger returned to the CMB lineup to also collect a hit. She had been sidelined the past five games with an ankle injury.

Kahler improved to 6-5 in the circle. She had three strikeouts, which gives her 65 on the year.

The Raiders plated three runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

CMB (7-7 overall and 5-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference play) earned the season sweep. The Raiders beat Nevada 7-1 in the season opener. They host Van Meter in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

PCM 8, South Hamilton 4

JEWELL — Sophomores Abby Waddell and Katie VandeWall broke open a close game with home runs in the fourth inning Wednesday as the Prairie City-Monroe softball team earned a season sweep of South Hamilton following an 8-4 road win.

Waddell led off the fourth inning with a solo shot. And VandeWall closed the scoring with a two-run blast. In between that was a two-run single by sophomore Kayla Jennings as the Mustangs won their second straight overall and third straight Heart of Iowa Conference game.

PCM (11-6 overall, 7-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference) plated two in the first when Molly Vignovich and VandeWall each walked and scored on Jayci Vos’ two-run double.

The lead grew to 3-0 when Mckenna Van Veen singled and scored in the third. Van Veen was 3-for-3 with two runs on the night, while Jaiden Rogers had two hits and scored a run. Both scored on Jennings’ two-run single in the fourth.

Ady Wintermote and Alyssa Hegland helped the home team trim the PCM lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the third. The duo was 7-for-8 at the plate on the night but the rest of the team was just 3-for-23.

VandeWall was 1-for-3 but scored twice and drove in two. She now has two homers on the year and both came against South Hamilton pitching.

Rachel Freland got the win in the circle, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits, striking out six and walking four.

Leandra Diersen started for the Hawks (6-7, 3-6) but was ineffective, surrendering eight earned runs on nine hits in four innings. Wintermote pitched the final three innings and allowed no runs and just two hits.

The Mustangs host Class 3A No. 3 Greene County at 7:30 p.m. Friday. They play in the Oskaloosa Tournament on Saturday.

Lynnville-Sully 8, HLV 0

Lynnville-Sully 7, HLV 1

VICTOR — Taking on a tough HLV Warrior softball team on its home field, the Class 1A seventh-ranked Lynnville-Sully Hawks swept a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader Wednesday.

The Hawks won 8-0 and 7-1 to push their conference record to 10-0 and overall mark to 18-2. The Warriors dropped to 7-8 and 10-8.

Madison Rasmusson threw back-to-back two-hitters as the winning pitcher for Lynnville-Sully. In the first game, she walked one and struck out four. She issued two walks and struck out four in the 7-1 win.

Lysandra James hit her fourth home run of the season in the 8-0 victory. She also had a double and drove in three runs. Lizzy Van Manen hit two doubles while Brenna Lanser had a single and a double.

Madison Rasmusson connected for two singles and had three stolen bases. Kasiah Ehresman, Kristin VanderWilt and Maria Rasmusson each hit a single.

In the nightcap, Ehresman went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double and had two stolen bases. Madison Rasmusson singled and doubled. Haley James hit two singles. Hitting a single each were Lanser, Lysandra James and VanderWilt.

Lynnville-Sully goes to Sigourney Friday in conference play.

Greene County 4,

Colfax-Mingo 3, 9 innings

COLFAX — A two-out rally in the seventh inning by Colfax-Mingo sent the game to extra innings, but the 3A No. 3 Rams escaped with a 4-3 victory on the road Wednesday.

Greene County took a 1-0 lead after 1 and then went up 3-0 with two runs in the fifth.

The Tigerhawks began the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles by Brooke Nicholson and Erin Earles. Then with two outs, Alivia Haley brought the home within one with a two-run single and Ries Wilson tied it with an RBI double.

Wilson had two hits to lead the Tigerhawks at the plate. Amy Russell allowed eight hits and four earned runs in a complete-game loss.

The Tigerhawks dropped to 4-14 on the year, but five of those losses have been by one run and two were by two runs. Colfax-Mingo is 2-6 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.

Colfax-Mingo hosts the Pella Dutch at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Greene County began the year 12-0 but the win against C-M snapped a two-game losing streak. The Rams are 9-0 in HOIC play.
