Stover fans 13 in Raiders’ win over South Hamilton

COLLINS — Junior lefty Brady Stover allowed just one hit and struck out 13 on the mound and was one of three Collins-Maxwell/Baxter batters to collect two hits at the plate during the Raiders’ 10-0, six-inning win over South Hamilton in Heart of Iowa Conference action on Friday night.

Stover, who committed to Division I South Dakota State University on Wednesday, walked just one and now has 28 strikeouts in his first two games this year.

The Raiders jumped on the Hawks early, plating five runs in the first inning. They had nine hits at the plate in the game and took advantage of 10 South Hamilton errors.

Stover, Spencer Gauch and Brady Kemp all had two hits in the win. Stover doubled, stole a base and had one RBI, Gauch scored twice and drove in two and Kemp had two RBIs and one run.

Hunter McWhirter, Seth Balke and Brad Ritter all had one hit and one RBI. McWhirter also scored twice. Ritter scored once and had a stolen base, while Balke scored once and doubled. Tucker Maxwell did not have a hit but he scored once and drove in a run. The Raiders stranded eight runners on base.

Stover only allowed a hit to Blake Borquist, who also walked to lead the Hawks (1-4 overall, 1-4 in HOIC play)

CMB (3-2, 3-2) will take its two-game win streak to Colfax-Mingo on Monday. The Raiders and Tigerhawks will start their varsity game at 7 p.m.

Montezuma 10, Lynnville-Sully 8

MONTEZUMA — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks scored first in their South Iowa Cedar League conference game Friday night but they were in a battle all through the contest with host Montezuma.

The Hawks attempted to rally from a five-run deficit in the top of the seventh. They came up two runs shy and they lost 10-8 to Montezuma.

Lynnville-Sully (4-2) scored a run in the first and two in the top of second inning for a 3-0 lead. Montezuma locked it up at 3-3 in its half of the frame. Each team scored a run in the third to make to 4-4.

Montezuma gained the lead in the fourth, plating two runs. Lynnville-Sully got one back in the sixth, but gave up four runs to Montezuma in the same inning.

The Hawks scored three runs in the seventh then the rally was quashed.

Jake Brand took the loss, pitching five innings and being charged with 10 runs on six hits and five walks. Lucas Smith pitched one inning and gave up two hits and issued a base-on-balls.

Baker Zegers hit a single and a double and scored three runs for the Hawks. Kobe Fisk connected for a single and a double and drove in a run. Sage Zylstra hit a two run single and Caden Dunsbergen had a two-RBI double. Smith, Caleb James and Brand each had a single.

Lynnville-Sully hosts North Mahaska Monday in Sully.

Pleasantville 11, PCM 3

PLEASANTVILLE — One bad inning doomed PCM on Friday night. The Mustangs led 2-0 through four innings but allowed 10 runs in the fifth and suffered their fourth straight loss.

PCM committed three errors and managed just five hits at the plate. The Mustangs added a run in the seventh but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Chase Keuning had two hits, including a double to lead to the offense. Trey Lindsay went 1-for-2 with a run, two walks, a double and a stolen base, while Austin Brown had one hit, one walk and one RBI. Jerod DeVries added a hit, an RBI and he also walked.

Keuning started on the mound and took the loss. He pitched into the fifth, allowing three runs — two earned — on two hits. He walked three, hit three and struck out two.

Noah Henkenius, Reid Jenkins and Gunnar Davis all pitched in relief. Davis had the best results, alllowing no runs on one hit and two walks in the final 1 1/3 innings.

Josh Luna got the win on the mound and had two hits and two RBIs at the plate for Pleasantville (7-3).
