Deer freed, goal achieved by northeast Iowa officers

DECORAH — Three police officers in northeast Iowa have saved a deer that became tangled up in a soccer net. The Decorah officers were sent to a field on May 18. Sara Hendrickson, took along some scissors. The three discovered that the soccer net was wrapped several times around the neck of the frightened animal. Officer Brent Parker laid atop the deer to hold it down while Hendrickson attacked the net with the scissors.

The deer bounded away after being freed.

Decorah Police Chief Bill Nixon says he thinks his three officers handled the situation perfectly, praising them for their creative thinking.
