Summer paddling events set

Jasper County Conservation is inviting the public to rent canoes and kayaks for several paddling events going on this summer. Two river paddles are taking place in June. A 9.25 mile trip down the South Skunk River on June 12 and a 6 mile trip down the North Skunk River on June 22.

There will also be three lake paddles at Jacob Krumm Nature Preserve on June 19, July 16 and July 28. These programs are for those who wish to try the equipment out, sharpen their paddling skills, and enjoy being on the water.

To participate, you must register by filling out a registration form found on JCCB's website at www.jaspercountyconservation.com. All registration forms need to be returned to the Jasper County Conservation's office prior to the events at 1030 W. Second St. S. in Newton. There is a small fee per person for use of the equipment that can be paid the day of the event. A limited number of boats are available. Lifejackets will be provided. More information about the paddle events can be found on the conservation website.
