Irene C. Luethje Quinn, 87, of Newton, formerly of Ottumwa, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at her home in Park Centre in Newton.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 8 at the church.

Burial will be at the Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the donor’s choice. Memorials may be left at the church on the morning of the service or they may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home please add, Attn: Quinn Family on the envelope.

Irene, the daughter of Henry O. and Helen Kathryn (Rohweder) Luethje was born May 23, 1927, in Gladbrook. She was a graduate of Gladbrook High School in 1944.

On June 5, 1948, Irene was united in marriage with Richard P. Quinn at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waterloo. Irene was a secretary/office manager for Barnet and Remel in Waterloo, and then for Langley Optical in Ottumwa. They lived in Ottumwa from 1962-1996, and she has lived in Newton since 1996.

Irene was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, American Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society and the American Legion Auxiliary of Garwin. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities, anything Iowa Hawkeyes and politics.

Those left to honor Irene’s memory are her children, Christine Quinn Trank of Nashville, Tenn., John (Janet) Quinn of Bettendorf, James (Dawn) Quinn of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Mark (Sue) Quinn of Newton; two grandsons, Philip and Nick Quinn of Coralville; five step-grandchildren, Brandon Price of Newton, Brooke Price of Iowa City, Heather Haigh of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Jessica Pierce of Urbandale; her brother, Wilbur Luethje of Marshalltown; her sisters-in-law, Katy Quinn of North Hills, Calif., and Jenny Quinn of Clovis, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins from coast to coast.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard in 1991; son-in-law, Doug Trank; sister, Ina Emke; and brother, Richard Luethje.
