WATERLOO — Police say a woman accused of attacking her ex-husband’s fiancé with a knife in Waterloo was likely upset over something she saw on Facebook. Steffi Backen, 40, was arrested Wednesday on first-degree burglary, going armed with intent, second-degree criminal mischief and a weapons charge. Authorities say Backen drove her vehicle through the garage door of Laura Fuller’s Waterloo home the afternoon of April 25 and crashed into an interior wall.
Court documents say Backen then entered the house and chased Fuller with a butcher knife.
Following the attack, Backen was taken to UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital for observation and treatment of cuts. She was arrested upon release.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Backen who could be contacted for comment on the allegations.
