CMB boys track starts another win streak

BAXTER — A near sweep of the field events helped the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys’ track team get back on the winning track Monday.

Bryce Kemp won another long jump title, Hunter Gunderson recorded a personal-best mark in the high jump and Patrick Girard collected the gold in the shot put and those 30 points jumpstarted a Raider squad that was defeated in an invitational for the first time since 2013 on Friday.

The Raiders finished with 138 points and once again distanced themselves just enough from conference rival North Polk to claim another team title. The Comets had 115 points in second place, while Southh Hardin had 83 in third, Ballard scored 68 in fourth and Colo-NESCO was fifth with 58 points.

Saydel (54), West Marshall (33) and Colfax-Mingo (9) rounded out the eight-team field.

Kemp hit 20 feet, 11 inches in the long jump and also won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.14 seconds and placed second in the 100 in 11.56. He trailed North Polk’s Matt Cox by 0.2 seconds in the evnent.

Gunderson’s win in the high jump included a new personal record of 6-2.

Girard won the shot put with a throw 51-1 and was second in the discus at 128-10-5.

The other win on the night for CMB came from Kyle Cather in the 400 hurdles. He crossed the line in 57.17 seconds.

Colfax-Mingo’s best finishes came from Blake Summy in the 400, Colin Lourens in the long jump and the shuttle hurdle relay team.

All three were fifth. Summy crossed in 54.63 and Lourens hit 18-8.25 in the long jump. The shuttle hurdle team included Jared Myers, Lourens, Sean Borts and Richard Blom and that foursome hit the line in 1:09.85.

Summy also scored points in the 200 and long jump, finishing sixth in both.

The Raiders piled up more than just five wins. CMB also had six runner-up tallies and a pair of third-place finishes.

Aside from Kemp in the 100 and Girard in the discus, Mark Deutsch was second in the 1,600 and 3,200, Evan Bianchi was second in the 800 and the 4x400 relay took the silver.

Brady Stover also was third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.43 and the the 4x800 team placed third, too. Cather ended up fourth in the 400 and Stover was fourth in the long jump.
