UNI women host Missouri WNIT opener Thursday

CEDAR FALLS — The University of Northern Iowa women’s basketball team was selected to play in the 2015 Women’s National Invitational Tournament and will host the University of Missouri on Thursday.

UNI and the Tigers have matched up five times in school history, with the last game being played in 2009 in Columbia, Mo. The game on Thursday marks the first time UNI has hosted a WNIT game.

The Panthers are coming off of its sixth straight winning season with 17 or more victories. UNI finished fourth in league play this season and went on a three-game winning streak that ended in the semifinals of the MVC Tournament to eventual champions, Wichita State.

The Panthers brought home some hardware while at the MVC Tournament, including Stephanie Davison being named the inaugural MVC Sixth Player of the Year.

Madison Weekly brought home first-team All-Conference honors while Alyssa Johnson was named to the All-Defensive team. Ellie Herzberg was also tabbed to the All-Freshman team to round out UNI’s on court honors.

An official time will be set on Tuesday.
