Lynnville-Sully’s Jake Brand receives SICL Golden Award

South Iowa Cedar League coaches named Lynnville-Sully’s Jake Brand the conference’s 2015 Golden Award recipient.

Conference coaches give the Golden Award to an all-conference caliber player who missed a large part of the season because of an injury.

Brand, a senior, was a starter for the Hawks until he had a stress fracture in his lower leg before winter break. Lynnville-Sully head coach Nick Harthoorn said they held Brand out of practices over the break to give the injury time to heal.

“It was doing better, but then he came down on another player’s foot in the Jan. 9 game against Keota. After that game, it really bothered him and Jake was forced to sit out the next nine games,” Harthoon said.

Brand scored 145 points, averaging 9.1 points a game. He was one of Lynnville-Sully’s top 3-point shooters, hitting 29-of-90 for 32.2 percent from long range. Brand shot 33 percent, 46-of-139, overall from the field.

He had 35 rebounds, 43 assists and nine steals. Brand sank 24-of-36 free throw attempts for 67 percent.
