Kenneth Schafer

Kenneth “Kenny” Schafer, 67, of Newton, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at his home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 16 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 15 at the funeral home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials to the American Lung Association may be left at the funeral home.

Kenneth, the son of William Maxwell and Betty Sherline (Hicks) Schafer, was born on Aug. 4, 1947, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1965, and served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. Kenneth then worked at the Maytag Company in Newton, for more than 30 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he drove buses for the Baxter Community School District. Kenneth enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren and being outdoors.

Those left to honor Kenneth’s memory are his children, Jodi (Dusty) Albertson of Newton and Kevin (Jennifer) Schafer of Baxter; grandchildren, Austin Sellers, DJ Albertson, Shelbi Albertson, Zachary Schafer and Marissa Schafer (Austin McPherson); his mother, Betty Schafer of Newton; sister, Janet Porter of Baxter; and special friend, Hazel Grissom of Newton. He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Schafer; and a sister, Kathy Engle.
