• A 17-year-old juvenile is charged with simple misdemeanor interference with official acts and possession under age 18 after authorities pulled over a vehicle he was traveling in at 10:50 p.m. Friday. Officers saw the passenger place his left hand behind his seat and then saw an open alcoholic beverage behind the seat. After asking him to provide his wallet and place his hands behind his back the juvenile refused then began to run away. The police were able to stop him with a taser. They also found chewing tobacco in the car. He was cited and released to appear.

• Dustin M. Nicol, 34, of Monroe, is charged with driving while license denied and failure to maintain control after authorities were called to South Second Avenue East and East Fourth Street South at 3:39 a.m. Thursday. A passenger in a vehicle said Nicol was traveling southbound when he hit the vehicle turning north off of South Second Avenue East. Lawerence Hada, 44, of Newton, also charged with driving while license suspended, was driving the vehicle hit and was taken to Skiff Medical Center after having chest pains. Nicol was treated at the scene. Hada’s vehicle had approximately $10,000 in damage and Nicol’s vehicle had approximately $8,000 in damage. Both were cited and released to appear.

• Brian A. Callison, 39, of Newton, is charged with improper use of handicapped ID device and failure to maintain control after authorities were called to West Eighth Street South at 11:34 a.m. Monday. Callison was driving north when his vehicle crossed the center line and hit Melissa Timmins’ vehicle. Callison said that his tires and brakes were bad, and he lost control of his vehicle. Callison had a handicap placard in the mirror and he said it belonged to his mother. It was turned over to the Jasper County courthouse. Callison had approximately $3,000 in damage and Timmins had approximately $8,000. He was cited and released to appear.

• Samuel K. Foday, 22, of Des Moines, is charged with failure to maintain control after authorities were called to Highway 14 and Interstate 80 at 5:19 p.m. Monday. Foday had exited the interstate and was not able to stop at the stop sign due to weather conditions and his vehicle hit Dwight Veldhuizen, who attempted to avoid contact as he was traveling north on Highway 14. Veldhuizen had approximately $1,700 in damage and Foday had approximately $400 in damage. He was cited and released to appear.
