SULLY — Three Lynnville-Sully wrestlers worked their way into championship matches at Saturday’s South Iowa Cedar League conference tournament, hosted by Lynnville-Sully.
Cole Nickell at 113 pounds, Carson Dunsbergen at 126 and Blake Wehrle at 195 came up short of conference championships. All three lost by falls in the championship matches.
Nickell was pinned by Wyatt Olson of English Valleys right at the end of the second period at 113. Nickell had pinned Luke House of Sigourney-Keota in 1 minute, 42 seconds in the semifinals.
Class 1A fourth-ranked Jacob Krakow of Iowa Valley recorded a pin of Dunsbergen in 43 seconds at 126. Dunsbergen pinned Clayton Morrison of English Valleys in 1:14 in a quarterfinal match. He won by injury default over Travis Lewis of Tri-County Montezuma in the semifinal match.
Wehrle reached the 195-pound final by pinning Price Hall of BGM in 36 seconds in the quarterfinals, then had an 11-8 decision over Zeb Webb of Sigourney-Keota in the semifinal. English Valley’s Brennen Grimm pinned Wehrle in 1:44 of the title bout.
Iowa Valley won the SICL team title with 216 points followed by Sigourney-Keota with 192 points. English Valleys was third with 167 points.
Lynnville-Sully finished fourth as a team with 147 points. HLV placed fifth with 86 points followed by TCM with 78 points, North Mahaska with 67 points, Belle Plaine with 65.5 points and BGM with 63 points.
Sage Zylstra and Shannon Dunsbergen were third in the 120-pound and 285-pound weight divisions, respectively. Taking fourth place were Caden Dunsbergen at 123, Cayden Johnson at 138, Jack Hardin at 170 and Cooper Scandridge at 220.
Noah Zylstra placed fifth at 182 pounds. Bryson Barnett at 145 and Kyle Kramer at 152 each finished sixth. Colten Arment lost both of his matches at 160 pounds.
Lynnville-Sully goes to Class 1A Sectional 7 at Brooklyn Saturday.
