Kathryn I. Kingery

Kathryn Irene Kingery, 90, of Newton, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Nelson Manor in Newton. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday. Memorials to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church may be left at the funeral home.

Irene, the daughter of Henry W. and Mary Olive (Hughes) Hildebrand, was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1942. Irene was united in marriage with J. Walter “Walt” Kingery on July 16, 1943, in San Francisco, Calif. They made their home in Newton. Irene worked at the Maytag Company during the war and then at the Newton Clinic. In addition to being a homemaker, she also worked at the Vernon Company and later at the Maytag Dairy Farm. Irene enjoyed collecting, traveling, and shopping. She was a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend.

Irene is survived by her son, Dave (Pam) Kingery of Newton; three grandchildren, Jake Stoecker, Eric (Clarissa) Stoecker and Brian (Kelly) Stoecker; her four great-grandchildren, Zoe, Merrick, Elinor and Aisley; three sisters-in-law, Mabel Hobbs, Myrtle Schwarz and Sandy Kingery; brother-in-law, Clifford “Buzz” (Carol) Kingery; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walt in 2008; two brothers, Dr. William Hildebrand and James Hildebrand; and four sisters, Lucille Hildebrand, Louise Hewitt, Imogene Restola and Joann Armstrong.
