NEWTON (AP) — A high-ranking Iowa State Patrol officer has paid a $208 ticket for an off-duty speeding incident, two months after he was initially pulled over and let go by a subordinate.
Jasper County court officials said Monday that Capt. Ken Clary pleaded guilty last week to driving 92 in a 70-mph zone.
Video released this month shows trooper Bryan Guill speeding past cars on Interstate 80 near Newton to catch up with a van driven by Clary. Guill let Clary go without a ticket after a brief, friendly exchange. Clary was wearing his uniform but off-duty, driving a vehicle owned by a nonprofit for which he volunteers.
Patrol officials have repeatedly refused to say how fast Clary was clocked on radar and whether they reduced the speed listed on the ticket.
