PCM goes 2-1, Colfax-Mingo 0-3 in Gilbert

GILBERT — Six Prairie City-Monroe wrestlers went 3-0 and two others finished 2-1 during a quadrangular in Gilbert Thursday.

Highlighted by three pins from Clayton Welch and two pins each from 2A No. 10 Xavier Miller (120), 2A No. 7 Tristan Clark (126), Ron Marshall (170) and Trent Malone (285), the Mustangs went 1-1 against Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference foes Gilbert and Colfax-Mingo and also defeated non-conference opponent Panorama.

The Mustangs lost to the host Tigers, 51-30, but dominated the Tigerhawks (60-24) and the Panthers (53-30).

Colfax-Mingo went 0-3 on the night.

Aside from its loss to PCM, the Tigerhawks, who continue to deal with a short-handed roster, lost 73-0 to Gilbert and 60-12 against Panorama.

In the other dual, Gilbert beat Panorama 51-15.

Welch’s three pins came at 195 pounds. Miller, Marshall and Clark each scored two pins and were given one forfeit.

Jaret Maggard (182) and Chace Palm (106) each went 3-0 with two forfeits and a pin, while both of Malone’s wins were by fall and Skyler Koder (152/160) was 2-1 with a pin and a technical fall.

PCM got bonus points in all nine wins against Panorama. The Panthers won the first three bouts, but the Mustangs rallied with five pins, three forfeits and a technical fall.

Gilbert jumped out to a 15-0 lead and then finished off PCM with six more pins, including four straight at 220, 285, 106 and 113.

The Mustangs’ five wins came by pins from Maggard, Miller, Clark, Marshall and Welch.

PCM was given seven forfeits from Colfax-Mingo and the other three wins came by pins from Koder, Welch and Malone.

Ty Carlson (113), Adam Teed (126) and Richard Blom (138) all scored wins by fall for the Tigerhawks. Colton Lourens also was given a forfeit at 145.

The 12 points Colfax-Mingo scored against Panorama came by way of forfeit wins from Blom and Carlson.

Carlson came the closest to putting the Tigerhawks on the board as he lost 1-0 to Stephen Shuka at 113. PCM heads to the ADM Invitational on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.

Colfax-Mingo does not wrestle again until Tuesday when it travels to Maxwell to face Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference rival Collins-Maxwell/Baxter beginning at 6:30 p.m.
