Ted Stanzyk

Ted Stanzyk, 54, of Colfax, and formerly of Carroll, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Born on Feb. 2, 1960, in Carroll, he was the son of Donovan and Helene (Kunze) Stanzyk. Ted grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1978. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College where he earned a degree in small engine repair. He was married to Carla Oswalt on Nov. 7, 1987, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll by Pastor Charles Haake. The couple made their home in Colfax, and Ted worked at Pella Plastics and Clarion Technologies. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton. Ted was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Ted enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Ted is survived by his wife Carla, of Colfax; a son Jon Stanzyk, of Colfax; two daughters: Kelly Block and her husband Craig, of Des Moines, and Lisa Stanzyk, of Colfax; three grandchildren, Gabe and Gavin Block and Bethany Stanzyk; his mother Helene Stanzyk of Carroll; his mother-in-law Ella McKinney of Newton; three brothers, Don Stanzyk Jr. and his wife Nanci of Waterloo, Stan Stanzyk and his wife Carmel of Albuquerque, N.M., and Rick Stanzyk and his wife Karen of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Cheri Eicher of New Mexico, Patty Noland and her husband Bob of Omaha, and Lynne McGovern and her husband Greg Haas of Burnsville, Minn.; six brothers-in-law, Dean Oswalt of Newton, David Oswalt and his wife Barb of Newton, John Oswalt of Newton, Matt Oswalt and his wife Diane of Newton, Danny Oswalt and his wife Amber of Newton, and Jimmy Oswalt of Des Moines; four sisters-in-law, Mary Shaw and her husband Marvin of Newton, Nancy Roberts-Griffith and her husband Mike of Madrid, Debbie Wallace and her husband Paul of Knoxville, and Sarah Shera and her husband Aaron of Pleasantville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ted was preceded in death by his father Donovan Stanzyk Sr.; two brothers, Randy and Jeff Stanzyk; and a sister Kandice Stanzyk.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Newton with Pastor John Moore officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service.
